Middlezoy Rovers 1-2 Chillcompton

After disappointing results in the last couple of weeks the games did not get any easier for Middlezoy as this week they faced reigning champions Chilcompton. The opening half was played at a frantic pace with both sides looking for the first goal. The first chance fell to Zoy inside the opening 5 minutes as Adam Prescott broke down the right and delivered to find Jamie Temlett at the far post however his header failed to cause any danger. Both sides were creating chances with Greg Turner and the visitors keeper keeping their sides in the game. It was Middlezoy who struck first on the half hour though as brilliant build up consisting of 20+ passes was finished when Prescott played the ball through perfectly for Adam Long to thunder the ball home first time across the keeper. The rest of the half had very few chances for either side and Zoy would have been happy going in at half time one goal to the good against an impressive Chilcompton side who passed the ball very well. This looked like it was going to be the case however in the final minutes of the half a corner to the visitors was cleared straight up in the air and as it came down unfortunately for Zoy the Chilcompton centre back was underneath it 6 yards out to head into the bottom corner and send the sides into half time level.

2nd half a tactical change from Zoy made it difficult for Chilcompton to play their usual passing game resulting in them playing long and gifting Zoy more possession. It was a half where Zoy had the majority of the ball as they searched for that all important second goal that their performance deserved. Chances fell to new signing Matt Connick, Dan Luce and Andy Smith however resilient defending and last minute blocks kept Zoy at bay. They thought they had finally beaten the Chilcompton back line when Oli Ham went on a run took it round the keeper and from 6 yards out and two defenders on the line Zoy were just waiting for the net to bolge however unfortunately with Hams weaker foot he found one of the defenders on the line. Then came the sucker punch on 85 minutes as Zoy we’re searching for the winner they were hit on the break. The ball was played in between the full back and centre half for the winger to run through and slot passed Turner in goal who had been a spectator for most of the half. With 5 minutes left Zoy through men forward and had chances to equalise the best of which came when Luce played the ball through for Long whos cross rolled across the 6 yard box however there was no one following in to tap the ball into the empty net. With very little time for Zoy to get back into the game 2-1 was how it stayed but if Zoy play like that every week there will sure to be more wins than defeats.

Man of The Match : Adam Long
