SOUTH WEST WOMEN'S FOOTBALL LEAGUE, PREMIER DIVISION.

South West Women's Football League Premier Division Downend Flyers Ladies 0 v. Middlezoy Rovers Ladies 3

This was definitely a case of a game of two halves, with a very strong wind blowing straight down the pitch on the 3G at Lockleaze Sports Centre in Bristol.
Middlezoy played against the wind in the first half and found it difficult to get the ball forward initially. They started to play some good football on the floor and were rewarded after 10 minutes when a low through ball found Chelsea Day. She outpaced the defenders around her and hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area past the diving keeper.
Middlezoy did well to contain Downend against the fierce wind but were rarely troubled except for several corners which came to nothing. However, just before the break, keeper Lindsay Rogers made a terrific double save to keep Middlezoy ahead at the break.
The wind increased after the break, and Middlezoy found it difficult to find their forwards, with the ball blowing down the pitch at speed.
Georgia Coles smashed a shot from 20 yards against the crossbar with the keeper well beaten and the keeper saved well from Chelsea Day.
After 60 minutes, Nicole Bell picked up a loose ball in midfield. She moved the ball to the right and hit a tremendous shot from 30yards which went in via the inside of the post, leaving the Downend keeper flat foooted.
Middlezoy kept pushing forward and Rosie Williams hit a long range shot from the left of the penalty area which struck the far post and rebounded to safety.
Middlezoy were not to be denied though. After 80 minutes, a left sided cross by Teri-Lou Fox was met by Devon Rich who volleyed into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
Towards the end Downend did break away but their only shot of the half went harmlessly wide.
This was a fine performance in difficult conditions and keeps the Ladies firmly in mid table.
Next week they travel to Ilminster Town Ladies hoping for a further three points. Kick off 2pm.
